I teach the same novels and, while they are good, it’s hard to pick up another book when over the course of the entire school year, I read up to 20 novels and other texts. Sometimes I fall in and out of touch with personal reading for my own benefit. And then, I realized, there was something I could do with a hobby (and job) that I love: reading. I followed new sites and accounts, felt content when my social media started to become dominated by people of color and the LGBTQ community. I felt helpless in many ways protesting amid a pandemic while recovering from surgery scared me, I didn’t have too much money to donate to websites I wasn’t sure would do their part, and only posting to social media just felt a bit hollow. With all of the current issues in the world and the BLM movement, I found myself wondering how I could personally make a change to better the world.

The network in August gave a straight-to-series order to Jerry Bruckheimer-produced Harvest as its first drama series in a decade. Spike TV has had a rou gh re-entry in the scripted series arena. We are pausing to ensure we get the script right and to deliver fans what they want - a fantastic show that fully captures the spirit of these wonderful books.” “The Red Mars trilogy is one of the most beloved, modern science fiction properties, in part because of its tremendous scope and ambition. “We will continue to develop Red Mars with Skydance,” a spokesman for Spike TV said in a statement to Deadline. The move comes as executive producer/showrunner Peter Noah has exited the project, produced by Skydance TV. EXCLUSIVE: Spike TV has pushed the pause button on Red Mars, its 10-episode straight-to-series drama adaptation of Kim Stanley Robinson’s best-selling “hard” science-fiction trilogy. Whereas Sonnet 18 is the nice cute cliched one, Sonnet 130 provides a more realistic, almost rhetorical view of love and both would be incredibly popular. To understand the significance of this sonnet I think it needs to be known that Sonnets 1-17 are about a young person, and their beauty, as preserved by the poet through the first. Two of Shakespeare's most famous sonnets, Sonnet 18 and Sonnet 130, have completely contradict each-other and offer differing views on love and love poetry. Easily the most famous of Shakespeare’s Sonnets, Sonnet 18 is about as clear a love letter to someone, as well as to love itself, that you can get. Within its crumbling underbelly there lives a thriving world of danger and violence, where the gangs are effectively in control. This has been going on for so many years that they have become a become a fixture on the landscape those who could not bear the constant threat of destruction have long since fled the city, while those who chose to remain have learned to live with the new reality.Īs such, Empire Island has become a place of dichotomies. High above in the skies, a pair of dragons continually rain down fire upon the buildings and citizens, creating mass havoc. This is Empire Island, where our story takes place. Imagine a city, at once high-tech and futuristic, but also burned-out and falling apart. Here’s to giving it my best shot, though! This is just one of those once-in-a-lifetime books with a story that is much bigger than the sum of its parts, and can’t be easily summarized or placed neatly into any one category. It’s rare that I find myself at a loss for words about a book, and while I’m sure I can come up with any number of adjectives to describe Chandler Klang Smith’s The Sky Is Yours, I doubt even that would be sufficient to give the full picture of the novel. This does not affect the contents of my review and all opinions are my own. I received a review copy from the publisher. Book Review: The Sky Is Yours by Chandler Klang Smith Here’s my inaugural ranking of the best movies of 2023, followed by my most anticipated releases for the rest of the year. There were enough strong releases this month that it felt time to finally start picking favorites. But April saw the best mix of films thus far-ranging from the maximalist surreality of Beau Is Afraid to the understated charm of S howing Up. The pickings have often been slim (particularly for moviegoers who don't live in Los Angeles or New York City), and the films themselves disappointing. It is only up to the parliamentary opposition to say that the government is unfit, populist 5-Star Movement (M5S) leader and ex-premier Giuseppe Conte said after French Interior Minister Gérald. Great films that appeal to different tastes and identities, made in different styles and with different means. Surprising studio tentpoles, captivating genre pictures, audacious little indies, you name it. As a moviegoer-and I don’t want to speak for all moviegoers, but, hey, that’s what I’m going to do-the ideal scenario is to not just get a lot of movies coming out, and to not just get a lot of good movies coming out, but to get a lot of different kinds of good movies coming out. They run the entire gamut, from heroic to villainous, cunning to caring, terrifying to trustworthy. On the silver and plasma screens, we’ve met robots that are riotously contrasting in shape, size, and intent. Thanks in no small measure to Hollywood – in particular the Star Wars space saga, the maiden episode of which hit theaters in May, 1977 – robots have become part and parcel of our popular culture and commerce. When R2-D2 beeps that C-3PO forgot the tickets to the ceremony, the latter retorts: “The ticket was your job, nitwit.” When told that he looked somewhat like the Oscar statue behind them, C-3PO declared that it looked like him. Ahead strutted in the pleasingly neurotic, bronze figure of the linguist, C-3PO, with his short, stout, and sassy mechanic mate R2-D2 close behind, and bringing up the rear the white-orange ball of a droid named BB-8, who made its debut in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, released this past December. If one were paying attention to the Oscars this year, it would have been hard to miss the most famous robot trio of all time as they arrived on the opulent stage of the Dolby Theater. In the end, I got that swoony feeling back, so I’m choosing to round up my rating. This was an EASY 5-star rating for me for much of the book, but the lackluster middle almost pulled that rating down. Trying to figure out his thoughts was half the fun – it’s told exclusively from the heroine’s point of view, which was good for most of the book (puzzling out the hero kept me engrossed), but detrimental in the middle (when the heroine was bugging me and I couldn’t get a read on the hero). The first few scenes had me absolutely hooked, and the mysterious, gruff hero has such a marshmallow heart. This HEA requires some patience and the journey to get there might make you want to shake some sense into the heroine, but I loved the vast majority of it. Slow burn lovers, this one’s for you! And the best news? This is a complete standalone, so if you’re new to Penny, it’s the perfect place to jump in. Words are blotted out or struck in the new version, and as he approaches the bottom of the page, the lettering diminishes in size, because he realizes that he will run out of room.” “His scrawling alterations cover virtually all of the generous white space and must be inserted in at least three different locations in the original text. On the last page, above, “James has partially or fully crossed out 16 of the 19 lines and rewritten the text for the definitive New York edition in the margins and at the foot of the page,” notes Hauptman. He had decided the plot was unconvincing and asked for so many changes that two copies of the book had to be inlaid page by page on larger sheets to give him room to mark all the revisions. Literary scholar Robert Hauptman calls this “marginal emendation run amok” - it’s a page from Henry James’ 1877 novel The American as James revised it anxiously for a new edition in 1907.
